Pedro Jarque Krebs | Spain
Pedro Jarque Krebs is a Peruvian wildlife photographer, best known for his darkly ambianced, studio-quality close-up portraits of beasts, large birds, and other wild animals. He has won photography awards including the Sony World Photography Awards, SIPA Contest, IPA, and Px3. Jarque was born in Lima. He graduated in Philosophy of Science from the Sorbonne University in Paris and has educated himself as a photographer since childhood, when he began playing with a camera gifted by his father, taking pictures of tadpoles and frogs at a pond near his house. His work has been frequently published in National Geographic. Jarque’s photographic exhibition Fragile was on solo display at the Peruvian Embassy Gallery in Washington, D.C. in 2019. According to commentators, his photographs “aim to break down the psychological and emotional barriers that separate us from our fellow creatures, capturing every animal in an atmosphere of breathtaking intimacy,” and constitute “a cry against species extinction.”

Tassos Sakoulis | Greece
Anastasios (Tassos) Sakoulis was born in Athens in 1966, but he springs from the small village of Hioniades, Ipirus, northwestern Greece. He started photographing birds as a freshman at Forestry School in the mid-1980s in order to learn to identify them. In the coming years, he understood that he liked wildlife photography in general, including macro. He appreciates every moment he spends outdoors, trying to capture a nature’s great moment, an action shot, or the beautiful colors of nature’s palette. All these years he had worked on important bird conservation projects that gave him the opportunity to meet Greece’s natural beauties and biodiversity. The project that changed his life was focused on the conservation of the Bearded Vulture in Greece which ultimately led him to Crete, where he has been living since 1999. He was among the two people that worked and was responsible for the first publication of BirdLife Greece’s magazine (the first 13 issues). So he knows, firsthand, the importance and the power of wildlife photography in public awareness and wildlife conservation.
