AWARD SPONSORS
Birds
Grand Winner and also Winner in Birds category is Mat Bell (Australia).
The penguin’s suspended leap is truly striking. The camera freezes its transition from water to solid ice so naturally that it almost appears unreal, both because of the bird’s perfectly vertical posture and the precise point of its “flight.” And yet, the leap is entirely real, a fleeting moment captured only through the trained eye and patience of a highly skilled photographer.
Landscapes
Winner in Landscapes category is George Digalakis (Greece)
A captivating black-and-white image with a romantic character, radiating calm while revealing the inexhaustible beauty and serenity of nature. The simplicity of the composition, the sky reflected on the river, and the overall minimal atmosphere are the elements that make this photograph stand out.
Water
Winner in Water category is Oksana Mylnikova (Russian Federation).
A remarkable contrast, both in color and form. The small fish is set among oversized pieces of ice with smooth edges, which render them less aggressive or threatening. The fish is clearly present, yet questions remain: is it alive, or was it placed there by the photographer? There are no answers.
Wildlife
Winner in Wildlife category is Alex Brackx (Belgium).
An outstanding capture of the very moment of attack in full motion. The lens records the intensity of the scene, as the zebra, having lost its balance, appears vulnerable and unable to react. The image avoids blood or graphic detail, instead subtly foreshadowing what may follow, which could well unfold differently from what we expect.
Macros
Winner in Macros category is Christos Pantazis (Greece).
The lens captures the insect on the plant in a way that evokes the intricate patterns of a woven textile, even if this is merely an illusion. Thoughtfully positioned within the frame, the subject allows space for the delicate texture of the flower, upon which the small creature rests lightly and gracefully.
