Drying incense
«…Vietnamese workers sit surrounded by thousands of incense sticks in Quang Phu Cau, a village in Hanoi, Vietnam, where the sticks have been traditionally made for hundreds of years. Incense plays an important role in the spiritual lives of Vietnamese people. People use incense in all worship activities. The bamboo bundles are arranged on the ground on sunny days so as to dry them. To make the incense sticks the bamboo is first split in two, cleaned and dusted and then a third of the stick is coloured red, purple or yellow. To dry them the sticks are laid out on the ground or road-side for about one day. After they have dried, the sticks are collected and put into bunches of about ten and these are fastened together. They are then sold around the provinces…»

Frozen
«…This photo shows parts of Niagara Falls covered in ice. During spells of cold weather, the mist and spray from Niagara Falls can freeze into ice over the top of the rushing water of the waterfall, giving the appearance that the Falls have frozen whilst the water continues to flow underneath the sheets of ice. The photograph offers intricate detail of the icicles that have formed around the building and on the rock face…»

She is Mundari
«…As in 2021, when I first visited Mundari, this year, Mundari children are still working from a very early age. They and adults don’t know when they were born or how old they are. In appearance, the youngest workers are between 6-8 years old. A number of them were born in other cattle camps, away from their parents, and it is thought that they may have been sold or given away for breeding. “BREEDING” is figurative because they have to work to be able to get food. The cubs’ job is to get up at 05.00 every morning, clean up after the cows and goats, milk them, send them off in the morning and welcome them in the evening…»

Dried up lake
«…This striking image captures a powerful contrast between human infrastructure and the forces of nature. The road stretches through the heart of a dried lake bed, symbolizing human resilience yet highlighting the deep scars left by climate change. The once vibrant blues of the lake have faded into muted shades of brown and gray, reflecting the harsh reality of environmental degradation. The intricate patterns left behind by the receding water tell a story of loss and transformation — a reminder of how delicate our ecosystems are. The road, cutting through the desolate landscape, evokes a feeling of isolation and vulnerability, as if humanity is navigating an uncertain future shaped by the consequences of its own actions. The swirling textures of the dried earth resemble veins, reinforcing the connection between nature and life itself. This image invites the viewer to reflect on the fragile balance between progress and preservation, urging us to reconsider our relationship with the planet before more of its natural beauty is lost forever…»
